Maybe You Need a King Size Waterbed Mattress?
One of the common mistakes people, especially newlyweds make, is to purchase mattresses that are too small for them. It may be fine at first, but remember there can be complications! Firstly you may find it difficult to get your much-needed sleep. Secondly, the wrong size mattress can pose risks to your back and your spine. What you need to do is find a mattress that fits you and your partner. It pays to know the different sizes of mattress and whether the right mattress for you and your partner maybe a king size waterbed mattress.
Now looking for a king size waterbed can be a little bit hard as they can come with different names and sizes. Today, there are two major types of king size beds: standard king, which is also called the eastern king, and western king, aptly named as California King. A standard king is wider than the California king by about 4 inches while the latter is much longer by about 4 inches.
It is highly important that you are buying the right size bed sheets to fit your bed. Remember that fitted sheets will only work for either one of the sizes while flat sheets can fit all sorts of king size beds. To make sure that you are going to get the right one, measure your beds first. Here are few information that may help you out.
The Eastern King, or standard king, is much wider than a queen bed (around 18 inches) but of similar length. It usually has frames, a mattress, and 2 box springs when bought. This size is the most comfortable for any two average adults. Sheets that are labeled "king size" will fit well to the eastern king bed. However, because of its monstrous size, this may prove to be impractical for a person living alone. They will find this size bed to difficult to move around. It won't fit easily down any skimpy hallways, alleyways, or entryways, or even narrow doors. Moreover, tall people may find it disappointing to know that it could not be long enough for them.
California King, on the other hand, is 4 inches longer and 12 inches wider compared to the Queen. It is known to be the longest bed sold in stores and is highly recommended for tall individuals. It also comes with two box springs that are half width and a mattress upon purchase. Nevertheless, like the standard king, it may be cumbersome to carry as it's hard to fit in narrow entryways.
Latest technology in king size waterbed mattress is the use of Essence of 10. It combines the lumbar waveless technology and the freeflow cylinders. The former guarantees better body support with its innovative design while the latter offers more timeless gentle motion.

What About a Waterbed?
Waterbeds have been around for a good few years now, their peak period of ascendancy was during the 1970's when owning a water bed was a bit of a fad. Prior to that they had been mainly used by the medical profession as they offered the long term bedridden a comfortable way of avoiding bed sores. Bed sores where avoided with water beds because of their ability to offer all round body support.
These earlier beds were generally free flow models and right through the seventies free flow bladders were the way most people went. However, free flow mattresses were not for everyone, some people got nauseous, others didn't like the way partners disturbed their sleep with ripples when they moved on the bed. For these reasons and others the fad for waterbeds just died off. They just weren't as cool as they sounded, difficult to move, more complicated than anticipated. All sorts of extras required.
So why would anyone consider a water bed? Well unrivaled comfort and quality of sleep are the major benefits from owning one of these beds. These days waveless waterbeds are cheap and easy to locate. Being waveless the old problems of seasickness and sleep disturbed by partners can easily be eliminated making these beds more attractive again. Waterbed mattresses using wave less tubes help reduce the weight when moving a bed, simply remove some tubes. Suddenly a waterbed is a more attractive proposition.
As well as the type of bladder you now get a wider selection of styles of frames to bring the waterbed right into the modern era. Previously heavy hard side wooden framed beds were the only real option when using a water filled bladder, but large cumbersome wooden frames are not to everyones taste or suitable for matching in with your current bedroom decor.
Now most manufacturers offer a wide range of softsided waterbeds. To all intents and purposes these look very much like a normal bed. The pedestal is under, rather than surrounding the bed and is often a nine legged steel frame with a suitable fabric cover. The bladder itself sits on the frame rather than within the frame, and is supported and encased by a foam, quilted liner. This gives the initial appearance of the bed being a standard bed.
Of course, the soft sided waterbed still offers choice between waveless and free flow, tubes or single or even dual bladder making the soft side a truly up to date version of the water bed. However, as with all water beds there is more to choosing a water bed than selecting which type of frame and which style and type of mattress.
Being a water infill, the water within is going to require a low level of management beyond other styles and types of bed. For instance to avoid the water in the bed going stagnant or moldy your going to have to treat the bed annually with a chemical conditioner. This isn't a difficult or onerous task, you don't need to empty the water from the bed, just add a tablet or solution to the bed annually. If you forget or aren't aware you need to condition the bed then your bed will deteriorate and start to whiff as bacteria builds up within the chamber so using a conditioner is necessary.
What about a waterbed heater? Depending on the climate your living in the water in the mattress is going to conduct temperature from the surrounding climate. Great if you live in a hot climate, the mattress will take longer to heat up and you get a cool nights sleep. In a cold environment your going to need a heater or the chill will be to much. Heaters are inexpensive but can be easily overlooked. Check out waterbed suppliers online before buying a waterbed there is a wealth of accessories available to make your purchase of a waterbed a truly great purchase.

Waterbed Mattresses
The mattress industry has shown remarkable changes in the last few years. One of the most recent additions to the industry is the waterbed mattress, a type of mattress similar to the traditional bed mattress. These are mainly made of vinyl and filled with water. Compared to other mattresses, waterbed mattresses are quite heavy and costly. A wide range of waterbed mattresses are available in different styles, sizes, and comfort levels.
As a conforming type of mattress, a waterbed mattress provides the best support to the entire body. These mattresses provide special support to the spinal alignment. It is also possible to get the therapeutic effects of heat by heating the water. Waterbed mattresses are available in different levels of firmness. Experts recommend that the firmest waterbed mattress is the healthiest. Single, double, queen, and king size mattresses are available. The most common shapes are oval, rectangular, and boxed. All waterbed mattresses have a valve to fill or remove water. A standard waterbed mattress uses around 150 to 400 watts of power, and a thermostat to control the heat.
According to the hardness of the mattress, waterbed mattresses are of two types, soft-sided and hard-sided. Earlier, waterbeds were hard-sided and consisted of a frame that rested on a platform and deck. The waterbed mattress was positioned on this frame. Soft-sided waterbed mattresses are commonly used these days. These are a compliment to the entire furniture in the room.
Three types of waterbed mattresses are available, free flow, hydraulic, and fiber fill. The free flow mattress is specifically designed to allow the water to flow freely. Sleeping on this type of mattress is just like sleeping on a boat; it makes free movements with every toss and turn. These mattresses have no balancing mechanism and do not give any body support. The inner part of the hydraulic waterbed mattresses is filled with tiny round vinyl coils. These mattresses are more supportive and not shakable. In fiber fill types, also called 100% waveless waterbed mattresses, the mattresses are filled with fiber, which increases the firmness of the mattress and reduces the movement of the water.

Waterbeds - Benefits and Disadvantages
When you hear someone talk about a waterbed it makes you think back to when you were a kid and everyone had one. Waterbeds were really popular back in the 1970's and 1980's and they are making a comeback today.
Many people are unsure of using a waterbed, as they are not sure if they are good for them or not. When waterbeds first came out, the mattresses didn't have as many variations to them as they do today. Today you can get waterbeds at many different levels of support ranging from full motion to waveless.
If you are unsure if a waterbed is for you or not then look at the pros and cons listed below. They map out the benefits and disadvantages of owning a waterbed. Keep in mind that what works well for one person may not work well for another.
Pros
Hygienic
People that suffer with asthma can actually benefit from waterbeds, as they do not carry such things as dust mites, as a regular mattress does. Waterbeds are very hygienic and offer asthma sufferers a clean dust free bed to sleep in.
Backache relief
Waterbeds offer those that suffer with backaches a chance to sleep in perfect posture as the bed molds itself to your body frame. It helps to reduce backaches and tension in the back, giving you much relief on a daily basis.
Relief from Arthritis
Waterbeds are heated and when you sleep on the heated waterbed, the heat combined with your weight being evenly distributed, you will find that achy joints and arthritis pains will be much less in the morning.
Bedsore relief
Those that suffer from bedsores can get much relief from a waterbed as it helps to evenly distribute your weight, making less stress on the areas prone to bedsores.
Cure for Insomnia
Many people that have trouble sleeping find that they can get a good night's sleep in a waterbed. This is due to the fact that their body can relax much better with the heated water and their weight is evenly distributed on the bed so they can get a better nights rest.
Cons
Weight
One of the biggest cons of a waterbed is the weight of the bed when it is filled with water. This is not a practical choice for those that live in an upstairs apartment of for those that have their bedrooms on the second floor.
Back Problems
While this is great for those that suffer with certain back ailments, it can also be hard for those with back problems to get in and out of the bed.
Pregnancy
Many doctors do not recommend that women who are pregnant, sleep in a waterbed. Some studies show that the rate of miscarriages is slightly higher in women who sleep in waterbeds then those who don't. This is believed to be due to the heat that the waterbed gives off. There are many pros and cons to sleeping on a waterbed but what it all boils down is your personal choice. What works well for one person may not work well at all for another.
